Special note: regarding Measles
Under the guidance of the Ontario Camps Association, and their work with Public Health Ontario and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the following policy is being established by Quin-Mo-Lac’s Board of Directors (May 2025).
If measles is detected at camp, any individual suspected of measles (clinically diagnosed) or confirmed positive, in addition to all individuals not vaccinated with the MMR/MMRV vaccination, are to be removed from camp. Until further notice, the isolation time required will be 21 days. Quin-Mo-Lac will notify the South East Health Unit of the discovery and any action taken and will follow any additional protocol they may require by the local public health unit.
Families & staff are being notified of this policy in enough time to source out a vaccination or booster if needed. (May 2025) Families & staff will be updated of any changes if necessary.
Ticks at Camp
The Quin-Mo-Lac site is maintained regularily to ensure the areas around the cabins, dininghalls, washrooms and Lodge are groomed. Areas will be mowed/raked whenever possible to discourage tick activity. Campers will be encouraged to remain on trails or in groomed areas as much as possible.
Campers and staff are encouraged to dress appropriately when going on a hike or leaving the groomed areas of the camp. Wear bug repellant, long pants and socks.
Counsellors at will remind their campers to check for ticks a few times per day and to immediately report any findings to their counsellors. Campers are discouraged from removing embedded ticks on their own in order to ensure complete removal. Children and counsellors will visit the First Aider for proper tick removal as soon as a tick is discovered. The First Aider will save the tick once it has been removed and contact the parent/guardian to advise them of the tick. Parents can advise the First Aider of the steps they would like to take.
Parents should monitor their children for signs of a “bullseye rash” once they return home from camp and seek medical advice if their child shows additional symptoms.
Covid Precautions
We adhere to all of the South East Health Unit requirements while recognizing their protocols are subject to change (screening, rapid testing, personal protection equipment, gathering sizes, etc.)
At this time, we will not be requiring vaccination for Covid-19. In order to stay safe in a communal living setting, we are encouraging our campers and Staff to be fully vaccinated. If Covid is detected at camp, the infected camper or staff will be sent home to isolate and recover.
We have adapted our program in the following ways:
1. We have purchased 2 ‘electrostatic’ sprayers to quickly sanitize every surface in a room.
2. The First Aid Station is renovated to allow for sanitation and social distancing.
3. Many of our faucets are converted to hands-free.
4. We have extended the Dining Hall roof over the deck to allow for some outdoor dining if needed.
